I think the skill of providing reassurance about normal behaviors is crucial for any pediatric provider. The way a caregiver interprets a child’s behavior can have far-reaching effects on the type of relationship that develops.
Think: “He has always been difficult, he was spitty, then tantrumming all the time, can’t focus on one activity, etc.”
Versus: “It’s so interesting how different kids can be despite similar circumstances!”
